Are We Really Safe With Extras Among Us?

Here is one of the articles that Valeria reads when she finds out that Tristan has gone rogue.

Vampire from Prominent Family Goes Rogue:
Are We Really Safe with Extra’s Among Us?

Today without the historical records, many of us barely recall the coronation of Queen Elizabeth the Second on June second nineteen fifty three.  The death of Stalin that same year is a small blimp in the recesses of our minds. What should have been widespread celebration as the New York Yankees won their fifth world series in a row was short-lived as another event that same night caused worldwide panic.
On October fifth mankind got concrete proof that our legends and myths were in fact reality when a lone camera man making the return trip from The Bronx, to his home in Upstate NY, came upon a sight that would change not only his life, but the entire worlds.  The brutal fight between two werewolves that Charles Pinkerton captured on film forever changed the courseof the world.  Within hours of its creation, the video had made the front page news of every major newspaper in America.  In less than two days the story had caused unprecedented panic in countries around the world.

Happy Easter!

Happy Easter everyone. I hope everyone has a blessed day.  I've been writing away trying to finish up a few stories so haven't posted in a few weeks.  I will sit down later today and write a longer 'fill you in' post.

Val and Irulan have a song!

When I sat down and started thinking of unique ways to promote Crimson Dawn, I began to think, hey what about a theme song or a song for Val and Irulan.  Now I do write songs here and there, but with my head consumed by vampires and werewolves and such, I couldn't put myself in that frame of mind.

Well thanks to Arlan Hamilton's blog Your Daily Lesbian Moment, I discovered The Lost Bois, a duo from D.C. that are making their mark on the queer music scene.  These two females, B. Steady and A.O, are insanely talented and I have fallen in love with their unique style of pop-hip-hop-r&b, folky music.  The more I listened to not only their music together, but B. Steady's work as a solo artist, the more I saw how perfect their music would be for Val and Irulan.

I went out on a limb and emailed them and amazingly enough, B. Steady emailed me back and agreed to work on something.  Well, as I said I am a huge fan and I had a song in mind and LUCKY me, she has agreed to allow me to use her original song Autumn as Val and Irulan's song!!

The lyrics are so perfect for Irulan and the way she feels for Val.  I can almost close my eyes and see Irulan humming the song to herself as she thinks about Val.

After you watch B.Steady sing Autumn, mosey on over to Itunes and snag you a copy.  Better yet, download her entire cd, Sunday Morning and grab a couple of Lost Bois songs while you're at it.  The Lost Bois Reading Rainbow is so on point.

The Lost Bois Website

Now for another bit if info.  I had the pleasure of doing my first interview with Ms. Tiptress, the web mistress behind Passion Reads.  She is a book blogger with a very unique way of doing reviews.  Ms. Tiptress doesn't write reviews that point out plot strengths and weaknesses.  She doesn't write spoilers or comment on writing style.  The reviews she writes are based upon how the characters and their story made her feel and how she related to them.  She calls them 'conversational reviews'.  I for one love her way of reviewing.

Aside from the interview, she has also reviewed both of the Darklife Shorts, Never Again: An Irulan Short and UnSpoken: A Val and Irulan Short.  Here's a link to her site and the interview.

Wonder Woman. My two cents

Ok, everyone has been blasting the Wonder Woman reboot that David Kelly is prepping for possible pick-up by NBC.  I have read numerous post about the casting of Adrianne Palicki as Wonder Woman. I have also looked at both the before and after pictures of the costume and have decided to put my two cents in.

First off, as a child of the seventies, I grew up watching Lynda Carter play the titular character on tv.  In many of our hearts the fabulous Mrs. Carter will always represent what the Amazonian princess should look like but come on people.  Series get rebooted and re-imagined all the time.

Lynda Carter as Wonder Woman

Look at Battlestar Galatica, it originally ran in 1978 with a small reboot in 1980, before coming back to the small screen.  When it returned to Sci-Fi, there was a major switcharoo with Starbuck, a character first played by Dirk Benedict, morphing into Kara Thrace and being played by the delicious Katie Sackhoff.  It worked.

Aside from Battlestar Galatica, how many Superman series have there been?  The 50's had The Adventures of Superman.  The 80's gave us the syndicated Superboy tv show that stared James Haymes Newman for the debut season before being replaced by Gerard Christopher for the remaining three.  The 90's introduced Lois and Clark, with Teri Hatcher as Lois Lane and Dean Cain as the man from Krypton.  Finally 2001 saw the debut of  the most successful of the bunch, Smallville , starring Tom Welling as a Clark Kent, learning how to use his powers and discovering himself, before he becomes the iconic hero.

Stargate was retooled for tv after the movie was a success.  How many Batman cartoons and movies have there been?  The La Femme Nikita reboot on the CW is awesome as hell and I can say that despite the fact that I am a total Pita Wilson as Nikita fan.

My point being, reboots are going to happen.  We cant judge the Wonder Woman reboot based on the past series.  So the comments about Adrianne Palicki not being as whatever as Lynda Carter, need to stop.  My God people, the show hasn't even hit the air yet.  At least give it a chance.  I happen to think she will do a decent job because she knows all eyes are on her and just waiting for her muck up DC's reigning heroine.

Now for the costume.  Well, I don't have that many positive things to say about the first plasticine incarnation of the new Wonder Woman costume.  It looked cheap, point blank, nothing else to say.  Well maybe a few more.  The original pants color was all wrong, the metal parts look plastic and it looks hot as hell.

It looks like NBC paid attention to the outcry from fans, because they made a few corrections.  First the pants are darker and no longer look plastic.  The boots are now red and not killer heels that I was afraid Ms. Palicki would break her neck in the first time she had to chase someone.

After and Before. New W.W. costume

With that said, the costume still has that plastic metal looking vibe going on, and the top looks like some wonder boobs might spill out of it at any moment, but I think it looks a lot better.  What bugs me is the way super powered females are outfitted more for the stripper pole, than functionality.  When DC retooled the Amazonian's costume I for one thought it was about time.  She dropped the spanky's and got a leather jacket and pants, which makes more sense to me.  Leather holds up in a fight and offers some protection.  Pants offer more protection that a pair of star covered underpants. And I LOVE the bracers!

Present W.W. costume

Work on that top NBC.  If she's gotta have it, give the girl a leather jacket like the comic book please.  Or something that looks totally cool like this one.

Third Short Not Ready

Sadly I have to come to you guys and admit that I am not done writing the third Darklife Short.  I have been busy planning my book launch, which has grown a lot larger than I could have ever imagined.  My launch is now a part of my hometown's Red Rose Festival.  There will be live entertainment, multiple author book signings, giveaways, and more.  Getting all the ducks in a row is taking away from my writing time.  But I am getting there.

I would have been finished with it by now, but I have this fascination with the new character Lawless, that I am trying to hold back.  Everything scene that I write her into, she ultimately ends up dominating and I don't want that.  I thought about cutting her but she is crucial to the storyline so...  Eh, I'll work it out.  Sooner rather than later I hope.  I really gotta get it together and uploaded.

Maybe I need to turn off The Lost Boys so I can concentrate.

As a reminder, head over to my website and check out the DarkWorld Forums!  There is a contest there that will run until the May 6th.
